| Uh, for me, I think American society more strongly stresses equality among people. Usually, you can’t see right away who’s, uh, when you deal with Americans, you probably have a harder time telling when they have a high social standing or whether or not they have a high social standing. But I think that this, uh, in Asian societies this is a place where you can see very clear differences. Uh, my, um, opinion is, or the thoughts I can offer are, when, uh, when you are in an Asian society, you can tell from the clothes people wear, or, uh, from, uh, from a person’s body language towards another person, or their gestures, you can tell that they’re being very respectful, or that someone is someone else’s superior. It’s very, um, in Asian societies, there’s a direct link between some professions and social class and social standing, like teaching.
Although they’re, although they’re middle class, and their salaries aren’t that high in comparison to other professions, teachers in Asia have extremely high, um, social, um, they’re very well respected. Now, I can, uh, what I’m saying, um, being, um, in Taiwanese so-, in Taiwanese society at least, um, you can tell by what a person wears or, uh, you’ll see that they dress somewhat differently. When someone is, when you’re, when someone is an executive at a company, perhaps he can, um, he’s more likely to give orders, or, uh, have an imperious attitude. You can’t miss this; there’s a bigger difference between them.
