| Uh, about the use of lawyers in society, so, uh, I personally believe that a lawyer’s job is protecting society’s, uh, prerequisites of fairness and justice [for] all segments, [and] all classes. Now, in China, I think the use of lawyers has not been effectively developed, especially, uh, among the general, the vast majority of ordinary citizens because they don’t have a high degree of awareness of the law, or have no awareness of it at all. This, this is related to, um, the level of education of China’s ordinary citizens, and is also somewhat influenced by the degree of dissemination of the law in society as a whole. It also has to do with the availability of lawyers. In China it’s likely that a lawyer’s fees would, comparatively speaking, be higher than ordinary people’s incomes. So, when you have, when people encounter some kind of problem, they probably wouldn’t, they wouldn’t think of going through a lawyer to resolve it. They would perhaps go through their own channels to resolve it. So I think that the use of lawyers by these kinds of ordinary people, their use in China is relative low. As for [their use in] business settings, I myself am not really that familiar with the situation, but, uh, some of my own, that is, what I’ve heard from friends, and my understanding from the news, I think that these days in business settings, everyone is paying more and more attention to this kind, to this, to the use of lawyers, especially as the legal efficacy of contracts and agreements becomes more and more important.
