129: Ko-Nung Chen - Professional - Role of Women Executives
Taiwan, Taipei
In Taiwan, male executives and female executives are usually not very different in terms of policy-making or management. The most important difference [appears] when an employee makes a mistake. Male executives usually take a more direct approach to criticizing the employee, whereas female executives don’t generally criticize you. Instead they give verbal warnings. But this doesn’t mean that the situation isn’t serious. It means that female executives express themselves in a gentler manner. When a female executive takes a graver tone, it usually means the problem is more serious. In addition, if you want to have a good relationship with a female executive… female executives are typically interested in chatting about a couple of subjects, like families and children. If you want to get close to them… [chatting about these subjects] is a good approach to having a good relationship.
